For some time now I have wanted to start a French music and dance group in the Hitchin / Letchworth area.  In the past, I have had to travel to London, Kent, Exeter, Bath and Yorkshire to pursue my interest and was desperate to start something nearer home.
I therefore decided to plan a weekend of French music and dance - hence the Eurobash Herts - as a launch pad for future monthly sessions. Eurobash Herts took place at The Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living on 7th and 8th October 2006.  The monthly sessions, under the name DanseHerts, will be held at Ickleford Village Hall on the 2nd Sunday of the month from 1-5pm.  (See the events page for dates).
Eurobash Herts was hosted by Meridian, a well-known French Music band from Kent, and Kerry Fletcher, an equally well-known and excellent dance teacher.  Meridian's tunes are skillfully composed, played and sung, and are great to dance to.  Kerry's dance workshops were brilliant, even seasoned dancers benefit from Kerry's 'back to basics' and  'have fun' approach.  There was also a wonderful lunchtime concert and evening Bal (dance).
DanseHerts is not just about dancing, we intend for it to be a social gathering and aim to encourage people to play and enjoy the music.  We have already had interest from teachers who are keen to teach their young pupils to play the tunes. We are hoping that DanseHerts will be a group for all ages.  Our emphasis is on having a great afternoon and we hope to make everyone feel valued and welcome.  No partners are necessary as we intend to actively encourage our more experienced dancers to help newcomers.  There will be no pressure to do anything ...so if you simply wish to sit and listen to our live acoustic musicians that’s fine.  We are also encouraging people to bring food to share, and their own drinks.

DanseHerts is a not for profit venture with the intention of promoting French/Breton traditional music and dance.
